Experiments with Induction Signals
Using tangled wire to emit inductive signals enables the random arrangement of multiple field recordings. Each length of wire has a separate signal running through it and when bunched/tangled it creates nodes where sound interjects and form crossed signals. I amplify these recordings, using an inductive pickup and find that it becomes a process of encounter rather than a process of controlling the sound.
There are parallels between this method and that of field recording regarding modes of navigation, moving among environments and exploring optimal point of observation. I am intrigued by happenstance and sound as phenomena so I find conventional modes of mixing sounds restrictive and this process certainly relinquishes these concerns.
This arrangement is a common component during my live performances.
